Primary survey — ABCDE

Memory trick

ABCDE in strict order: Airway (with C-spine protection), Breathing, Circulation (control bleeding), Disability (neuro/GCS), Exposure. Never move past a step until it is stabilized — a blocked airway kills before a broken leg.

ABCDE بترتيب صارم: Aالمجرى (مع حماية الرقبة)، Bالتنفس، Cالدورة (ضبط النزيف)، Dالعجز (العصبي/غلاسكو)، Eالكشف. ولا تتجاوز خطوة حتى تستقر — فالمجرى المسدود يقتل قبل الساق المكسورة.

Triage categories

Emergency triage (color coding)

In triage, treat the patient with a life-threatening but treatable problem first (airway obstruction, severe controllable hemorrhage). In a mass-casualty event, the goal shifts to the greatest good for the greatest number — resources go where they save the most lives.
